I am very proud to announce that the attached boulder will be in place and dedicated to my son on Tuesday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m. Please look for it next time you pass through – it’s new location will be on the stretch between Clough Pike and Eastgate Boulevard. Coming from Eastgate Boulevard/Route 32, it will be on the left, across from Mt. Carmel Pediatrics. The road changes names from Eastgate Boulevard to Ferguson Road to Ivy Point. This is the stretch of road, once farmland, where Tony traveled on his bike to and from work at Chuck-E-Cheese.

This is a great tribute to Tony and I know that he would be very proud.

Thank you for your friendship and your support.

Dedication ceremony is open to public.

Pfc. Zachary Salmon, 21, was shot and killed Wednesday when his armored vehicle was attacked.

Salmon grew up in Hebron, Ky., and later moved to Tennessee. His aunt Christine Craig lives in Greendale, IN, and says Salmon was a vibrant young man who will be missed.

“He’s not going to be at our family functions,” Craig said. “It’s just that a hole that he’s going to leave because he is larger than life.”

WEST CHESTER – Marine Cpl. Lucas T. Pyeatt, the 24-year-old son of a West Chester Township couple, has died in combat in southern Afghanistan. A Russian linguist and radio operator for the Marine Corps, Pyeatt was the team leader of a six-man radio unit in the war-torn country, his friends said Monday. His parents, Lon “Scott” Pyeatt and Cindy Pyeatt, moved to West Chester Township in 2004. His sister, Emily Smalley, lives in Hamilton with her husband and children. Pyeatt’s father is retired from the Air Force and works for General Electric. Prior to living in West Chester, the family lived in England, Germany, Texas, North Dakota and California, but Pyeatt considered Newport News, Va. – where his family resided for 10 years and he graduated high school – his hometown, his sister said.
He was a member of the 2nd Radio Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Lejeune, N.C., according to the Pentagon.
Cpl. Thea Smuckler, a friend and colleague in the 2nd Radio Battalion, said Pyeatt started boot camp in April 2007 with plans to be in infantry, but was injured in training and reassigned to the intelligence section, where he excelled in linguistics at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, Calif. He got a perfect score on his final Russian exam – “which is ridiculously hard,” she said.
Other military colleagues concur he was sharp as a tack, fun-loving and fully dedicated to the military; a great listener who was a friend to everyone he met. “Everyone was his best friend and I’m not lying when I tell you that,” said Lance Cpl. Lindsay Radisek of Cleveland, another linguist with the 2nd Radio Battalion. “Ninety percent of my friends (in the military) I met through him.”
Pyeatt was a leader at the Defense Language Institute in California by the time she began training there. She said he always appeared to be in full control of his circumstances and surroundings.
“He wasn’t easily shaken and always knew what to do,” Radisek said. “He was wise.” When she thinks about Pyeatt, she pictures him with cigarette in hand, sitting on his motorcycle. Radisek said he was so selfless he lent his car to a friend who had to move to Washington, D.C., for six months and relied on his bike. “Pyeatt was the most kind, generous person,” Smuckler said. “He was so unassuming.”

In a note she shared on Facebook, Smuckler recalled a conversation the two had when they lost a friend to suicide. Pyeatt said he would celebrate his life and not dwell on his death. “He told me that when he died he hoped it was protecting those he loved,” Smuckler wrote. “I never thought that would come to be … I cannot help being overcome by tears whenever I am reminded of the reality of it all. I still can’t believe that he’s gone. To have him taken so soon is nothing short of a tragedy.
