Posted: Jan 12, 2010 7:29 PM EST Updated: Jan 12, 2010 7:3

UNION TWP. (Fox 19) — Plans are underway for the “Let us never forget” scholarship fundraiser.

It raises money for scholarships in honor of tri-state military killed in action. Students from high schools around the tri-state benefit from the fund.

The dinner is April 9 at Oasis Conference Center in Loveland. It includes a silent auction and dancing.

Event organizer, June Izzi-Bailey, said all the work is worth it to honor the families by helping others further their education.

“We put on these events because we feel fallen heroes are never to be forgotten and this is a way we can show parents that and parents join us to remember their loved ones,” Izzi-Bailey said.

Some of the auction items include a fiddle signed by Charlie Daniels, dinner for two every week for a year and a shopping spree.

Tickets are $50 per person. You must RSVP by March 20.

Nearly 2,000 people packed a Florence church Tuesday to pay their respects to Anthony Campbell.

Campbell was a Cincinnati police officer who was killed in Afghanistan on Dec. 15.

Campbell was remembered as a dedicated officer, a servant to his country, and above all else, a husband and father to his three children.

Campbell was a bomb technician. He died while he was escorting his unit safely around an improvised explosive device. The roadside bomb went off, killing the Air Force Reservist.

During Tuesday’s memorial service, Campbell was honored with the bronze medal of valor.

“By his heroic actions and unselfish dedication to duty in the service of his country, Sgt. Campbell has reflected great credit on himself and the United State Air Force,” said Brig. Gen. Robert Bailey.

Campbell was also recognized for his service to the Cincinnati Police Department. He was on the force only two weeks before he was deployed to Afghanistan.

Anthony will be honored on April 9th with a Let Us Never Forget Scholarship.See events for details.

Sgt. 1st Class William Brian Woods, nephew of Robert Woods, died August 16, 2009 from wounds suffered when he was shot on August 14 while on patrol in Ghanzi, Afghanistan. Sgt. Woods, 31, leaves a wife, Elizabeth, two daughters and brothers and sisters.

Woods deployment was one of many, says his uncle, Robert Woods. Mr. Woods spoke with his nephew on the phone on the night before he left for Afghanistan. Sgt. Woods grew up in Catwissa, Mo.

Mr. Robert Woods, an Ohio State Captain of the Patriot Guard, has attended many of the funerals of the Tri-State Fallen Heroes. Because of Robert’s dedication to the Fallen Heroes, his nephew will receive a “Let Us Never Forget” scholarship in his memory.
